      Introduction

A camera installed inside a refrigerator faces a different imaging problem from a conventional indoor USB camera.

The available mounting distance is short, shelves and stored items can block the view, and temperature differences around the optical area must be considered as part of the product structure.

This 1MP USB camera module combines a D182° ultra-wide lens, 1280×720@30fps output direction and a 20cm Fixed Focus setting, allowing a large interior area to be captured from a limited mounting position.

The mechanical design also includes an integrated heater wire around the optical section and specifies double-sided conformal coating on the PCB, making the module specifically relevant to refrigerator and other cold-environment device designs.

      Applications in Real Devices

      Smart Refrigerator Interior Cameras

A refrigerator camera is usually mounted close to shelves and stored items rather than several meters away from the target.

The D182° diagonal and H156° horizontal FOV help capture a much larger portion of the cabinet interior from one fixed camera position.

      Food Inventory Viewing Systems

Smart appliances may use an internal camera to provide users or software with a general view of stored items.

The ultra-wide optical direction is useful when the goal is broad inventory visibility rather than concentrating all pixels on one small object.

      Cold Storage Observation Devices

Devices installed inside low-temperature compartments need the optical and PCB structure to be evaluated together with the thermal and environmental conditions.

The heater-wire structure and conformal-coated PCB provide a more relevant hardware direction for this type of installation than a standard exposed USB camera board.

      Compact Cabinet and Enclosed-Space Imaging

The same optical concept can also be considered for other enclosed spaces where the camera sits very close to the observed area and maximum scene coverage is required.

      Project Evaluation Guide

      Consider This Model When

      • The camera will be installed inside a refrigerator or other compact cold compartment.
      • Very wide scene coverage is required.
      • D182° FOV matches the enclosure geometry.
      • 1280×720@30fps is sufficient for the image task.
      • The camera is focused around a 20cm working distance.
      • A heater-wire structure is useful for the optical area.
      • PCB conformal coating is required.
      • USB integration is preferred.
      • The host can accept the module’s USB electrical interface.

      Confirm Before Sampling

      • Actual camera mounting position inside the cabinet.
      • Required shelf and compartment coverage.
      • Working distance to the nearest and farthest stored items.
      • Whether D182° creates excessive edge distortion.
      • Heater-wire voltage, power and control requirements.
      • Operating temperature range.
      • Condensation conditions.
      • LED illumination requirement.
      • USB connector and pin definition.
      • Enclosure sealing around the lens and PCB.
      • Whether 720P contains enough detail for the intended recognition or inventory task.

Choosing This Model Within the USB Camera Module Series

Choose this model when the project needs extreme scene coverage in a short-distance, cold-environment installation.

      Its core selection value is:

      D182° Ultra-Wide Coverage + Heater-Wire Structure + Conformal-Coated PCB + USB Integration

      rather than 1MP resolution alone.

Compared with conventional D110°–D150° USB camera modules, this configuration is aimed at situations where the camera must see almost the entire nearby compartment from one fixed location.

Compared with ordinary indoor USB camera boards, the heater-wire and conformal-coating requirements make this product more specifically aligned with refrigerator and cold-compartment integration.

      Ultra-Wide Lens and Cabinet Coverage

The lens FOV can be evaluated according to the refrigerator compartment width, shelf depth, camera position and areas that must remain visible.

If D182° captures too much distorted edge area, a narrower optical configuration can be evaluated to increase usable target size within the image.

      Focus and Interior Working Distance

The standard drawing specifies a 20cm focusing condition.

The Fixed Focus position can be adjusted according to the actual relationship between the camera, shelves and stored objects when the real working distance differs from this setup.

      Heater-Wire and Thermal Integration

Heater-wire structure, routing and control requirements can be evaluated together with the refrigerator temperature environment and the mechanical design around the optical area.

The final heater operating voltage, power and control strategy should be confirmed at project level.

      PCB Protection and Mechanical Integration

Conformal coating, PCB dimensions, mounting-hole position, lens opening and enclosure interface can be reviewed according to the humidity, condensation and mechanical requirements of the final appliance.

      USB and Illumination Integration

USB connector structure, cable routing and illumination requirements can be evaluated according to the host board location and internal cabinet lighting design.

Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.

      FAQ

Why use a D182° camera inside a refrigerator?

A refrigerator provides very limited distance between the camera and the shelves.

An ultra-wide lens allows the camera to capture much more of the cabinet interior from one fixed position than a conventional-angle camera.

      Does D182° create strong distortion?

      Yes.

The drawing lists distortion below -90%, so this configuration clearly prioritizes scene coverage rather than geometric accuracy.

For inventory viewing this may be acceptable, but geometry-sensitive measurement would require separate evaluation.

What is the purpose of the heater wire?

The drawing confirms an integrated heater-wire structure around the optical section.

Its exact operating purpose and thermal-control strategy should be defined with the final refrigerator design, especially according to temperature and condensation conditions.

Does conformal coating make the complete camera waterproof?

      No.

The drawing requires double-sided conformal coating on the PCB, but this does not automatically make the full module waterproof.

The lens opening, connector, cable, PCB edges and appliance enclosure still need to be evaluated together.

Is the 20cm focus distance fixed for every project?

      No.

The standard drawing specifies a 20cm focusing condition, but Fixed Focus can be evaluated according to the actual shelf and target distances in the final product.

Is 720P enough for food recognition?

That depends on the size of the food package, label or object that must be recognized.

For general cabinet viewing, 720P may be sufficient. If small text, labels or fine object classification are required, the number of target pixels should be evaluated before sampling.

      Request Project Evaluation

If your project needs a camera inside a refrigerator or cold compartment, provide the cabinet dimensions, camera position, shelf layout, working distance, temperature conditions and required viewing area.

SincereFirst can help evaluate whether the standard D182° + 20cm Fixed Focus + heater-wire configuration provides enough interior coverage or whether the optics, focus or mechanical structure should be adjusted.
