      Introduction

A forward camera can guide an endoscope through a cavity, but it cannot always show what is happening on the wall beside the probe.

This dual-camera design adds one side-view camera while keeping the structure simpler than a three-camera head. The forward camera is optimized around a 5cm distance, while the side camera is set around 4cm to better match the different geometry of the two viewing directions.

For applications where one side view is enough, this provides a practical balance between directional coverage and camera-head complexity.

      Applications in Real Devices

      Side-Wall Pipe Inspection

The forward camera helps guide insertion while the side camera observes the pipe wall. This is useful when defects are expected on the surface rather than only at the end of the inspection path.

      Engine and Mechanical Cavity Inspection

Some components are located beside the probe rather than directly ahead. The side camera can inspect these areas without moving to a larger three-view system.

      Bore and Channel Inspection

When the inspection path is narrow but the area of interest lies along one wall, a forward-plus-side architecture can be more efficient than repeatedly rotating a single-camera probe.

      Dedicated Dual-View Inspection Equipment

Some products need exactly two viewing directions. In those cases, adding a second side camera may increase mechanical and host complexity without adding useful inspection information.

      Project Evaluation Guide

      Consider This Model When

      • Forward view alone is insufficient.
      • Only one side direction needs inspection.
      • A three-camera structure is unnecessary.
      • A 7.9mm camera head fits the entry path.
      • Forward and side working distances are different.
      • USB 2.0 fits the host.
      • Integrated local illumination is required.

      Confirm Before Sampling

      • Which side of the probe needs observation.
      • Whether camera orientation must be fixed.
      • Minimum access diameter.
      • Forward and side target distances.
      • Surface reflectivity.
      • Cable length.
      • USB switching/display method.
      • Environmental conditions.

Choosing This Model Within the Endoscope Camera Series

This model represents the standard forward-plus-side USB inspection direction.

Choose it when one additional side view solves the inspection problem.

Compared with a three-camera model, it avoids adding a second side camera that may not be needed. Compared with a single-camera model, it adds access to side-wall targets that would otherwise require probe rotation.

      Side-Camera Orientation

The side-camera direction can be evaluated according to the position of the surface that needs to be inspected.

      Focus Distance

Forward and side focus settings can be adjusted according to the real working distances inside the cavity.

      Illumination Setup

The forward and side LED configuration can be evaluated separately according to target distance and surface reflectivity.

      Cable and USB Integration

Cable length, routing, camera switching and USB connection can be adapted to the final device structure.

Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.

      FAQ

When is one side camera enough?

When the target is normally located on one known side of the inspection path. If both side walls need to be checked without rotating the probe, a three-camera structure may be more appropriate.

Why is the side camera focused closer than the forward camera?

The side camera looks toward a surface beside the camera head, which is usually physically closer than the target ahead.

Does the side LED replace the forward LEDs?

No. They illuminate different viewing directions.

Is this model simpler than a three-camera endoscope?

It uses fewer cameras and viewing directions, but actual system complexity still depends on switching logic, cable design and host software.

What should determine the side-camera orientation?

The expected target location and the way the probe is installed or rotated in the final device.
