      Introduction

Some embedded products need more flexibility than a camera with one fixed optical configuration. The PCB may already fit the enclosure, but the required viewing area can change significantly between a document capture device, handheld terminal and inspection system.

This compact USB camera module uses a 30×25mm PCB and supports multiple lens configurations, allowing the optical direction to be evaluated without changing the basic USB camera architecture.

The module supports USB 2.0, UVC, MJPEG/YUY2 output and resolutions up to 1280×960. Its documented object-distance range is 5cm to 200cm, providing a useful starting point for applications that need different working distances.

      Applications in Real Devices

      Document Capture Devices

Document cameras and compact capture terminals may need to image a relatively large flat area from limited mounting height.

A wider lens can increase document coverage, while a narrower lens can be considered when the target area is smaller and more target detail is preferred.

      Handheld Imaging Devices

Portable devices often have limited PCB space and may be used at different distances from the target.

The 30×25mm board and selectable lens direction provide flexibility when adapting the same camera platform to different handheld structures.

      Inspection Equipment

Inspection systems may need either broad scene coverage or a more concentrated view of the target.

The available 150°, 75° and 62° lens directions allow the optical configuration to be selected according to the inspection area rather than forcing one FOV across every project.

      Compact USB Imaging Systems

Devices using a PC or embedded USB host can integrate the camera through USB rather than developing a raw sensor interface.

This is useful when the system needs standard video output and host-side image processing.

      Project Evaluation Guide

      Consider This Model When

      • A compact 30×25mm USB camera PCB is required.
      • The project needs flexibility in lens FOV.
      • MJPEG or YUY2 output matches the host.
      • USB UVC integration is preferred.
      • The working distance is within approximately 5cm–200cm.
      • Resolution up to 1280×960 is sufficient.
      • Low USB-side power consumption is valuable.

      Confirm Before Sampling

      • Required scene width at the real working distance.
      • Which lens angle best matches the target.
      • Whether 150°, 75° or 62° provides enough target pixels.
      • Required resolution and frame rate.
      • MJPEG or YUY2 output requirement.
      • Host operating system and UVC support.
      • Available lens height inside the enclosure.
      • Whether 5cm–200cm covers the actual imaging distance.

Choosing This Model Within the USB Camera Module Series

This model represents the compact USB camera direction with multiple optical options.

Choose it when the mechanical platform can remain the same but different projects may require substantially different FOVs.

Compared with a USB camera built around one fixed lens, its main advantage is the ability to evaluate wide, standard or narrower viewing directions on the same 30×25mm module platform.

      Lens and Field of View

The lens can be selected or evaluated according to working distance, required scene width and target size. Wide-angle and narrower-FOV options can be matched to different device tasks.

      Focus and Working Distance

The optical setup can be reviewed when the standard 5cm–200cm object-distance direction does not match the actual target position.

      PCB and Mechanical Integration

The 30×25mm PCB, lens holder and total module height can be evaluated against the enclosure. Lens choice is particularly important because the available configurations have different total heights.

      USB and Image Output

MJPEG/YUY2 output, USB integration and host-side parameters can be evaluated according to bandwidth, required frame rate and application software.

Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.

      FAQ

How should I choose between the 150°, 75° and 62° lenses?

Start with the required scene width and working distance.

Choose a wider FOV when the camera must capture more of the scene from limited distance. Choose a narrower FOV when the target should occupy a larger portion of the image.

Does the 150° lens always provide the best coverage?

It provides the widest coverage, but that does not automatically make it the best choice.

With the same resolution, a wider field of view distributes pixels across a larger scene, so individual targets appear smaller.

When should I use MJPEG instead of YUY2?

MJPEG is useful when USB bandwidth is a constraint or higher frame rate is required at larger resolutions.

YUY2 may be preferable when the host requires less-compressed image data.

Can this module be used for close-range imaging?

The specification lists an object-distance range of approximately 5cm to 200cm.

The exact usable sharpness still depends on the selected lens and focus configuration, so close-range applications should be validated with the actual optical setup.

Does the same 30×25mm PCB mean all three lens options occupy the same space?

      No.

The PCB remains the same size, but the lens and holder change the overall module height. The listed configurations range from approximately 7mm to 23mm in total height.

What information should be provided before choosing this module?

Provide the working distance, required scene width, target size, available module height, required resolution/frame rate and host USB conditions.
