The module supports multiple focal-length lens directions, including 1.8mm through 16mm options. The suitable lens should be evaluated from actual working distance, target dimensions and required scene coverage rather than selected by focal length alone.
External Trigger Configuration
External Trigger is part of the product direction. Trigger signal definition, capture timing and equipment-side control method should be confirmed against the intended operating sequence before sampling.
Output and UVC Integration
MJPG and YUY2 provide different bandwidth and frame-rate trade-offs. The final operating mode can be evaluated according to the host platform, image-processing requirement and whether compression is acceptable for the visual task.
Mechanical Integration
Connector direction, lens height and available enclosure space can be evaluated according to the device design. The final production mechanical drawing should be confirmed before the enclosure and mounting structure are locked.
Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.
FAQ
When is SF2A418-CD more suitable than a USB3.0 trigger camera?
Choose it when USB2.0 UVC already meets the host architecture and 1080P MJPG at up to 60fps is sufficient. USB3.0 becomes more relevant when the project requires higher data bandwidth, different uncompressed modes or another sensor architecture.
Does External Trigger mean this module is also Global Shutter?
No. External Trigger controls when acquisition occurs, while shutter architecture determines how the image is exposed across the sensor. The current SF2A418-CD documentation does not identify the sensor as Global Shutter, so that capability should not be assumed.
Why is the 1080P frame rate different between MJPG and YUY2?
MJPG compresses image data before USB transmission, reducing bandwidth demand. YUY2 transmits substantially more uncompressed data, so the supported frame rate at 1920×1080 is lower on this USB2.0 configuration.
How should the lens be selected from the available focal lengths?
Start with working distance, target dimensions and the amount of surrounding scene that must be visible. A shorter focal length generally provides broader coverage, while a longer focal length gives a narrower view of the target; the final FOV should be validated with the actual device geometry.
Is 60fps enough for a moving target?
Frame rate alone does not determine motion-image quality. Target speed, exposure time, lighting and shutter architecture also matter. If preventing motion distortion is a primary requirement, a confirmed Global Shutter model should be evaluated.
What should be confirmed before integrating it into an existing enclosure?
Confirm the current mechanical drawing, lens height, connector access, mounting position, cable routing and required camera opening before freezing the enclosure design.
