SF8A169 combines 8MP 4K imaging with hardware external trigger control for equipment that needs higher image detail while controlling when each image is captured.
Unlike the Global Shutter models in this Series, SF8A169 uses a Rolling Shutter sensor configuration. Its main value is therefore not high-speed motion freezing, but synchronized high-resolution image acquisition through a UVC-compatible USB2.0 connection. The standard module supports Fixed Focus and can be configured around different PCB, lens and housing requirements.

The standard product can be configured around 38×38mm or 32×32mm PCB dimensions. The final board size, mounting arrangement and connector position can be evaluated when the device has a fixed internal camera envelope.
Lens and Optical Configuration
The module supports 1/1.8-inch M12 and C/CS lens directions. Lens type and focus setting can be evaluated when the target distance, required FOV or optical installation space differs from the standard configuration.
Housing, Waterproofing and Microphone
The bare camera module is not waterproof. Waterproof or industrial housing can be evaluated when the camera operates in a protected enclosure requirement, while microphone integration is available as a customized option for devices requiring audio capture.
External Trigger and USB Integration
Rising-edge external trigger is supported as standard. Trigger timing, USB operating mode and MJPG/YUY2 selection should be evaluated together when the system needs synchronized capture at a defined resolution and frame rate.
Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.
FAQ
When should SF8A169 be selected instead of a Global Shutter trigger camera?
Choose SF8A169 when high-resolution 4K image detail and controlled trigger timing are more important than freezing fast object motion. If the target moves significantly during exposure and geometric distortion is critical, a Global Shutter model is more appropriate.
Why does 4K output not mean every format runs at the same frame rate?
USB bandwidth and output format affect the available frame rate. At 3840×2160, the specification lists MJPG at 30fps while uncompressed YUY2 operates at a much lower frame rate. The output format should therefore be selected according to the host pipeline rather than resolution alone.
When should the 32×32mm version be considered instead of 38×38mm?
Consider the smaller PCB when the device has tighter internal mounting space. Connector access, mounting points, lens clearance and thermal conditions should still be checked before the mechanical design is finalized.
Can the waterproof housing be treated as part of the standard module?
No. The bare module itself is not waterproof. A waterproof housing is an additional configuration that should be evaluated according to the final device environment and enclosure requirements.
What should be considered before adding a microphone?
Microphone support requires customization. Internal space, audio requirements, cable routing and host-side audio integration should be defined before the camera assembly is confirmed.
Is this model suitable for synchronized multi-camera capture?
The hardware trigger can support controlled capture timing, but complete multi-camera synchronization depends on the external trigger controller, system timing architecture and required synchronization accuracy. Those conditions should be evaluated at the system level.
