      Introduction

A camera module can fit the electronics and still fail the application if its field of view does not match the real scene.

This 1MP USB camera module provides a 38×38mm imaging platform with selectable optical configurations, allowing the same basic camera architecture to be adapted for wider scene coverage or a more concentrated target view.

The module supports resolutions up to 1280×720, with MJPEG output reaching 30fps at 720P. USB 2.0, UVC compatibility and MJPG/YUY2 output provide a standard USB integration direction for embedded and PC-connected devices.

      Applications in Real Devices

      Document and Desktop Capture Devices

Document or desktop imaging products may need different scene widths depending on mounting height and target size.

A wider lens can cover a larger document area from limited distance, while a narrower lens keeps the target larger within the 720P image.

      USB Inspection Equipment

Inspection devices may need to observe either a broad working area or a defined component.

The selectable lens directions allow the optical setup to be matched to the inspection task rather than forcing every project to use the same FOV.

      Interactive and Embedded Terminals

Terminals using a Windows or USB-based host can integrate the camera through UVC while selecting the lens according to user distance and required scene width.

      General-Purpose USB Imaging Devices

For OEM devices where the basic electronics remain similar across several products, retaining the same USB camera platform while changing the lens can simplify product-family development.

      Project Evaluation Guide

      Consider This Model When

      • 1MP / 720P imaging is sufficient.
      • USB 2.0 integration is preferred.
      • UVC compatibility is required.
      • MJPEG or YUY2 output fits the host workflow.
      • A 38×38mm PCB fits the enclosure.
      • Different projects may need different FOVs.
      • The target distance falls within approximately 5cm–200cm.
      • A standard square PCB is easier to mount than a slim or split-board structure.

      Confirm Before Sampling

      • Actual working distance.
      • Required scene width.
      • Smallest target detail that must remain visible.
      • 110°, 75° or 62° lens direction.
      • Required 720P frame rate.
      • MJPEG versus YUY2 workflow.
      • Available lens height.
      • Host UVC compatibility.
      • Mounting-hole position and enclosure clearance.

Choosing This Model Within the USB Camera Module Series

This model represents the standard 38×38mm 1MP USB camera direction with selectable optics.

Choose it when the project benefits from a conventional square PCB and the optical field of view still needs to be determined.

Compared with SF302D, both products offer multiple lens directions, but SF1A14-360 provides a clearly documented 1280×720 USB video direction with a 38×38mm mechanical platform.

Compared with ultra-compact or split-board USB modules, this model prioritizes a more conventional PCB structure and flexible optics rather than minimizing camera-head dimensions.

      Lens and Field of View

The lens can be selected according to working distance, target dimensions and required scene coverage. Wider and narrower FOV configurations can be evaluated on the same camera platform.

      Focus Distance

The focus setup can be reviewed according to the real operating distance when the standard optical configuration does not match the final device.

      PCB and Mechanical Integration

The 38×38mm PCB, mounting-hole structure and total lens height can be evaluated against the enclosure. Different lens options should also be checked for available front-side depth.

      USB and Image Output

MJPEG/YUY2 output, UVC parameters and USB cable or connector requirements can be evaluated according to host bandwidth, required frame rate and application software.

Final configuration should be validated with the actual host platform, enclosure, optics, software, and lighting environment before sampling.

      FAQ

      How should I choose between 110°, 75° and 62°?

Start with the actual scene width and working distance.

Choose a wider FOV when more of the surrounding area must fit into one frame. Choose a narrower FOV when the target should occupy more pixels in the image.

Is 110° always better for document capture?

      No.

A wider lens captures more area, but the document or target becomes smaller within the same 1280×720 image.

The correct FOV depends on mounting height and required readable detail.

Why does 720P run at different frame rates in MJPEG and YUY2?

The specification lists 1280×720 at 30fps in MJPEG but 10fps in YUY2.

MJPEG compresses each frame, reducing the USB data load compared with uncompressed YUY2.

Is 5cm–200cm a guaranteed sharp focus range for every lens option?

It should not be interpreted that way without validation.

The specification lists this as the module object-distance range, but actual usable sharpness depends on the selected lens, focus setting and required image detail.

Does the 38×38mm PCB fit the same enclosure as other 38mm camera modules?

      Not automatically.

Mounting holes, connector position, lens height and optical axis must also match.

Can I change the lens without redesigning the electronics?

The specification supports multiple lens configurations on this platform, but mechanical clearance, focus setting and final image performance should be validated for the selected lens.

      Request Project Evaluation

If your device needs a 1MP USB camera but the correct FOV is still undecided, share the working distance, target size, required scene width, enclosure depth and preferred video format.

SincereFirst can help evaluate whether the project is better matched to the 110°, 75° or 62° optical direction before sampling.
